Hp Officejetpro 8720
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi! I am an owner of Officejetpro 8720 all in one printer. I have been using it for about 7 month with reliable third-party cartridges for mild-office use. This month, on April 2019 the printer received a hidden firmware update although updates were disabled. And the update activated a feature called dynamic security. As a result, when I first insert a new third-party cartridge it recognizes non-hp cartridge both in couple of minutes it totaly rejects the cartridge. My printer is proced on January 4, 2016 yet unlike what is declared by HP on its support page dynamic security is enabled. To me that is complete violation of property rights and this approach also violates antitrust laws by mandatorly tying product with each other. HP is not the only quality ink producer and it should end this unlawful policy. Can anyone kindly offer any solution for now?

If your printer was manufactured before December 1, 2016 then according to the tech documentation I see either HP can provide a firmware fix to disable dynamic security, but you will have to contact them.

Thanks for your reply. I communicated both with HP technical staff and administrative team and talked over 2 hours about the specific problem I experienced [edit]

I am also having this problem, after spending an hour on the phone with them, they don't know what I was talking about at first, then decided that's "just the way the printer is built" and they don't know how to disable it.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
