Hi @Oceansandy,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP DeskJet 2842e printer is not connecting to your Wi-Fi network, here are the steps you can follow to resolve the issue:
1. Prepare for Installation
- Ensure Network Compatibility:
- Make sure your Wi-Fi network is operating on a 2.4 GHz band. Some printers do not support 5 GHz networks.
- Place the Printer Close to the Router:
- Ensure that the printer is within range of the Wi-Fi router to avoid connectivity issues.
- Check Network Stability:
- Make sure your Wi-Fi network is working correctly and there are no interruptions.
2. Reset Network Settings on the Printer
- Reset Network Settings:
- Turn on the printer.
- Press and hold the Wireless button and the Cancel button simultaneously for 3 seconds. This will reset the network settings to factory defaults.
3. Connect the Printer to Wi-Fi Using HP Smart App
- Download HP Smart App:
- Download the HP Smart app from the HP website or your device's app store (available for Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android).
- Open the HP Smart App:
- Open the app and create or log in to your HP account.
- Add Printer:
- Click on the + sign to add a new printer.
- Follow the on-screen instructions. The app will guide you through connecting your printer to the Wi-Fi network.
4. Manual Wireless Setup Using Printer Control Panel
- Wi-Fi Setup Mode:
- Turn on the printer.
- Press and hold the Wireless button until the Wireless light starts blinking.
- Connect via WPS:
- Press the WPS button on your router within 2 minutes. The printer should connect to the network automatically.
5. Check for Software and Firmware Updates
- Update Printer Firmware:
- Ensure the printer firmware is up to date by checking for updates through the HP Smart app or the HP support website.
- Update Printer Software:
- Make sure you have the latest printer software installed on your computer.
6. Troubleshoot Network Issues
- Restart Devices:
- Restart your printer, computer, and router to refresh the network connection.
- Network Configuration Report:
- Print a Network Configuration Report from the printer’s control panel to check the connection status and diagnose issues.
7. Advanced Troubleshooting
- Check Router Settings:
- Ensure that MAC address filtering is not enabled on your router, or if it is, make sure the printer’s MAC address is added to the allowed list.
- IP Address Conflict:
- Assign a static IP address to the printer through the router’s settings to avoid IP conflicts.
HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows)
- Run the Tool:
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool to diagnose and fix network issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
