Hi @Oceansandy,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP DeskJet 2842e printer is not connecting to your Wi-Fi network, here are the steps you can follow to resolve the issue:

1. Prepare for Installation

  1. Ensure Network Compatibility:
    • Make sure your Wi-Fi network is operating on a 2.4 GHz band. Some printers do not support 5 GHz networks.
  2. Place the Printer Close to the Router:
    • Ensure that the printer is within range of the Wi-Fi router to avoid connectivity issues.
  3. Check Network Stability:
    • Make sure your Wi-Fi network is working correctly and there are no interruptions.

2. Reset Network Settings on the Printer

  1. Reset Network Settings:
    • Turn on the printer.
    • Press and hold the Wireless button and the Cancel button simultaneously for 3 seconds. This will reset the network settings to factory defaults.

3. Connect the Printer to Wi-Fi Using HP Smart App

  1. Download HP Smart App:
    • Download the HP Smart app from the HP website or your device's app store (available for Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android).
  2. Open the HP Smart App:
    • Open the app and create or log in to your HP account.
  3. Add Printer:
    • Click on the + sign to add a new printer.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions. The app will guide you through connecting your printer to the Wi-Fi network.

4. Manual Wireless Setup Using Printer Control Panel

  1. Wi-Fi Setup Mode:
    • Turn on the printer.
    • Press and hold the Wireless button until the Wireless light starts blinking.
  2. Connect via WPS:
    • Press the WPS button on your router within 2 minutes. The printer should connect to the network automatically.

5. Check for Software and Firmware Updates

  1. Update Printer Firmware:
    • Ensure the printer firmware is up to date by checking for updates through the HP Smart app or the HP support website.
  2. Update Printer Software:
    • Make sure you have the latest printer software installed on your computer.

6. Troubleshoot Network Issues

  1. Restart Devices:
    • Restart your printer, computer, and router to refresh the network connection.
  2. Network Configuration Report:
    • Print a Network Configuration Report from the printer’s control panel to check the connection status and diagnose issues.

7. Advanced Troubleshooting

  1. Check Router Settings:
    • Ensure that MAC address filtering is not enabled on your router, or if it is, make sure the printer’s MAC address is added to the allowed list.
  2. IP Address Conflict:
    • Assign a static IP address to the printer through the router’s settings to avoid IP conflicts.

HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows)

  1. Run the Tool:
    • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool to diagnose and fix network issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
