I wasted an hour trying all the solutions HP proposed - regenerating certificates, deleting printer setup, resetting network, and so on. None of that works.
Obviously it's ridiculous that this error occurs in the first place, and even worse that HP don't provide the fix for it. Which is as follows:
1. Using Bonjour, set up your printer on your Mac.
2. Click on the "Printer Web Page" button. Click through the idiocy about bad SSL certificates. Obviously HP don't know how to handle those credentials either.
3. On your printer, go print out its info summary page. That has the magic PIN that for no good reason HP want you to enter before you can talk to the printer's web server. Apparently they think a printer is an ATM machine.
4. Click on Network, then Status to find your printer's wireless IP address. It will be 4 numbers beginning with 192.168.1 . Write it down.
5. Delete the bonjour version of the printer in your System Preferences.
6. Click the + button again to add a printer, but this time click on the second tab - the little world icon.
7. Select Airprint and enter your printer's full IP address everywhere you can. MacOS will figure out what kind of printer it is.
8. Complete the setup. That's it, you're done, your printer works, and you'll never have to deal with the idiotic HP printer credentials again.
9. Next time, buy any other brand of printer than HP.

Welcome to the HP support community.
I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
If you are unfamiliar with how the Community's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Community.
