@Kalle1,

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that you are unable to print color from your HP ENVY 5640 e-All-in-One Printer as the settings have been changed to black only.

This issue could occur if the black only option is not unchecked in the drivers.

Let's go through a few steps to resolve this issue.

  1. In your software application, click Print.

  2. Select your printer from the list of available printers.

  3. Click the option that opens the Printer Properties dialog box.

    Depending on your software application, this button might be called Properties, Options, Printer Setup, Printer Properties, Printer, or Preferences.

  4. On the properties window, click the Paper/Quality or Features tab, depending on your software.

  5. Click Advanced, click Print in Grayscale, and then de-select Print in Grayscale or High-Quality Grayscale.

  6. Click OK to complete the change.

Let me know how this works.

You have a good day ahead.

@Barfetta,

Thank you for your reply, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that you do not see the "Print in Grayscale" option in the printer drivers on your computer.

Please follow page number 27 from the user guide in the link: http://hp.care/2d5fjVn

Let me know if this works.

You have a good day ahead.

Hi Rainbow,

  I'm pretty sure it has to do with the type file I was trying to print... it was a "Richtext" file I created. It contains some text and color images, but they only print in grayscale.

  Also, if I were to try and print this web page...the option to print it in color are not showing at all.

  But, if I were to try and print the HP PDF manual file you suggested I look at, an entirely different print box opens up, with the options to print in grayscale, as you discribed above.

  So...I'm guessing it's just the type file I was trying to print, and the program I was trying to print from ???

I can print color photos just fine...

The solution was very simple, reinstallation of the printer drivers solved the matter completely - something went wrong from the beginning!  So simple and I'm a little bit embarassed for taking your time here on the forum...  Anyhow, please accept my appreciation for your efforts! / Karl

Dear Rainbow23,

Please notice the fact that I never used your suggested solution to solve my problem!  Make no mistakes here though, I'm very grateful for your efforts to help me out BUT the one who really deserves all credit is a collegaue of yours at HP helpdesk in Malmoe Sweden +46 105200700 and his name is EMANUEL!

When I wrote earlier that the problem was solved by reinstalling the drivers, it was only a summary because that was an easy way for me to convey the ghist of the problem - basicly the process was much more complex than just reinstalling drivers and software!

However Emanuel guided me trough all difficulties in an excellent manner and he didn't only fix the problem concerning the print out's refusal to be in color, he also fixed other problems which blocked my way to enjoy the service of this excellent printer - I will not go into details here, it would derail my message completely...!

So, as a conclusion, you (Rainbow23) really tried to help and I'm grateful and appreciate your efforts but we must pinpoint the medals and awards on the right guys chest!  So EMANUEL at helpdesk Malmoe, Sweden, attention!  Please accept the awards and medals from a very pleased, happy and saticfied customer to your company!!!  Your performance was just simply outstanding.
