Hi @EdEverett ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Adding an old printer like the HP Deskjet 940c to a laptop running Windows 11 may require some manual steps since it might not be automatically recognized by the operating system. Here's a guide on how to add a printer:

Connect the Printer:

  • Make sure your HP Deskjet 940c is connected to your laptop through a USB cable or any other supported connection.

Check for Built-in Drivers:

  • Windows 11 may include built-in drivers for your printer. Connect the printer to your laptop and wait for Windows to detect it. If it's detected, it will attempt to install the necessary drivers automatically.

Use the Add Printer Wizard:

  • If the automatic detection doesn't work, you can manually add the printer:
    • Press the Windows key, then select Settings (gear icon).
    • Go to "Devices" and then click on "Printers & scanners."
    • Click on "Add a printer or scanner."

Manually Install Drivers:

  • If Windows doesn't automatically install the drivers, you may need to download and install them manually. Visit the official HP website, locate the support section, and find the drivers for your printer model. Download and run the installer.

Add a Local Printer:

  • If you still encounter issues, you can add the printer as a local printer:
    • Open "Settings" > "Devices" > "Printers & scanners."
    • Click on "Add a printer or scanner."
    • Click on "The printer that I want isn't listed."
    • Choose "Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings."
    • Select the port to which your printer is connected (usually USB).
    • Choose the printer driver for your HP Deskjet 940c.

Test Printing:

  • Once the printer is added, try printing a test page to ensure that it's working correctly.

Windows Update:

  • Ensure your Windows 11 system is up to date. Sometimes, additional drivers are made available through Windows Update.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.-
