How can I get my 2700 deskjet series to print a 4x6 photo that is only a wallet size?

Welcome to the HP English Community --

Product / Printer Model:  HP DeskJet 2700 All-in-One Printer series

Operating System:  ?

Software / Application:  ?

Connection Type:  ?

Content / File Type:  ?

Paper Size / Type: ?

Job type:  Print 4x6 inch image

You can print a smaller image file as a larger image.

Keep in mind that if the tiny image is not high-quality (dense), spreading the tiny image into a much larger size will reduce the quality of the larger print.

DeskJet printers -- including the printers in the 2700 models -- require a larger margin along the bottom edge (12.7mm).

and

The 2700 printers do not support Borderless printing.

Your best option

Print the image at the actual size you wish it done --

Use an application that can print the image to Scale, that is, some exact percentage of 100% without adjusting the image size to fit onto a paper size.

HP Smart - Windows -- can print to Scale.

If you wish the printed image to be exactly 4x6 inches, you must print that image on a paper size larger than 4x6 AND the application must understand the "print to scale" concept.

Why?

That larger margin along the bottom edge will force the printed image to be cropped and made smaller than the size of the paper.

If you wish merely to print your tiny image on a 4x6 inch paper and have it fitted to the paper as can be done, then any application that can print the image on the paper will work.

For example,

At this writing --

HP Smart - Mobile - tends to print content at or near the size of the paper.

This means that the application can print the image on 4x6 inch paper using the required margins supported by the printer.

Depending on the device (tablet, phone) and the app's current abilities, there might be a manual Resize option beyond the typical "Fit" size settings.

No, the sizing will not be exact.  HP Smart - Mobile - does not respect the Aspect Ratio.

Reminder - Before you print --

Tray and Paper (size / type) must be set ahead of time.

Use (as you have in the past), the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to verify / modify Page Size / Type.

What else?

HP Smart - Windows - can be instructed to print an image in a selected size on a larger piece of paper.

This means that you can use a large piece of paper (Letter size) and print an image on it at 4x6 inches.

HP Smart - Windows - can be instructed to print an image on supported paper size and type.

The image will be (can be) set as "Shrink to Fit" or "Cropped".

In general, a DeskJet printer will force one margin to the side or up / down depending on the orientation.

What about the shape of the image as it compares to the shape of the image?

That is --

What if the shape of the image does not match the shape of the paper?

Forcing an original photo onto the shape of the paper can change the way the image appears on the paper.

For example,

  • "Crop" will attempt to force even margins at the expense of the content.
  • "Shrink to Fit" retains the content at the expense of even borders.

Reminders

  • Even (same on each side) Borders might not be possible using a DeskJet Printer regardless of the paper size.
  • DeskJet printers (at this writing) do not support Borderless.

Printer - Margins

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Important

DeskJet printers do not support Borderless

and

DeskJet printers require a larger margin along the bottom edge of the paper

These limitations impact how content is printed on paper.

This DeskJet printer requires a larger margin along the bottom edge (1/2 inch).

Borderless PrintingNo
Print Margin Bottom (A4)12.7 mm
Print Margin Left (A4)3 mm
Print Margin Right (A4)3 mm
Print Margin Top (A4)3 mm

There is no software, firmware, or alignment that changes the larger margin requirement.

The solution to "chopped off" is to keep all data inside of 1/2 inch / 12.7mm on the bottom edge.

This limitation includes all text, images, page numbers, footer information, cells, tables, lines, other notations, and all file types, too.

Create your original document with 12.7mm ( 1/2 inch ) margins.
