Hi @al3212

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd like to help!

Most likely the print driver is already installed and you can print.

You can try to reinstall the scan software separately to see if that will resolve the issue.

Go to start, computer, right click on the CD for the printer installation and left click on open.
Open the setup folder, product folder, and then Scan_App folder.....HPScanLJM.....msi -
right click and select install or you might just be able to just double click on the hpscan.exe to extract the files.

If it opens the scan software, then you don't have to continue the steps listed below.

Then Go to start, computer, c:, program files or program files x86, HP, HPljm1530 mfp series, bin, look for hpscan.exe and right click and send to desktop. This will create a shortcut on the desktop again.

Try and open the shortcut on the desktop for the HP Scan software.

Usually when you get the time out error, you would do these steps in the document, right after connecting the USB cable. A Fatal Error Displays During Software Installation. After this is done the installation should continue.

How is the printer connected? (USB/Ethernet)

It might be named HP Scan instead of hpscan.exe. You might have to try a couple different ones listed in the path while going to start, computer, c:, program files or program files x86, HP, HPljm1530 mfp series, bin.

Let us take a look, to see why you still can't scan.

  1. On the Windows taskbar, click the Windows icon (

), and then click Control Panel. The Windows Control Panel opens.
  2. Click System and Maintenance, and then click Device Manager. The Device Manager window opens.
  3. Click View, and then select Show hidden devices on the drop-down menu. A list displays in the Device Manager window.
  4. Open imaging devices, it should list the printer name there, if it says pnp, right click and update the driver.
  5. If the printer isn't listed, then click on Action across the top and scan for new hardware.
  6. From the Update Driver Software screen, click Browse my computer for driver software, and then click Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer. The Add Printer Wizard screen displays.
  7.  From the Add Printer Wizard screen, select your printer driver from the list, and then click Next. The driver installation process begins. (select the printer driver, not the universal driver)

If the printer is listed properly under imaging devices, temporarily turn off the Antivirus Software to see if that is causing the conflict.

Try scanning from Paint.

Download and run the Print and Scan Doctor if the issue persists. It will diagnose the issue and might automatically resolve it. Find and fix common printer problems using HP diagnostic tools for Windows?

Please let me know the results.
