Help please, I clicked 'reset the printing system' for my printer as it wasn't responding since I changed my wireless router today...and I can't get it back!  I try to 'add' printer but it's not on the list. I've also tried downloading software from HP (the HP firmware updater) and it can't locate anything. Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Not to worry, we can setup the printer with Apple AirPrint. Here is how to do it:

1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

Example of the Printers & Scanners window

2.) If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.

3.) Click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name. Confirm AirPrint in the Use or Print Using menu, and then click Add.

Select AirPrint from the Use menu

4.) Try to print.

Thank you for being a part of HP Forums. I'm here to help.

Re-configuring the printer wireless settings may resolve the issue, let's try these steps:

1.) Use the steps available here to remove existing printer software and drivers from your Mac PC.

2.) Press the Wireless button and the Cancel button from the printer control panel at the same time, and then hold them for 5 seconds. This will reset the printer network settings and enable auto wireless connect.

Note: HP Auto Wireless Connect automatically connects your printer to your wireless network without cables or entering network name and password settings. HP Auto wireless connect will only be available for one to two hours after you reset the printer network settings.

3.) Use steps 2 from this document to install the printer software and connect it to your home wireless network.

Let me know how it goes!

Thanks for getting back to me.  Unfortunately I've followed all these steps and on the final step I've downloaded the HP Firmware and started the programme, but it can't detect my printer. It's looking, as the thing is just spinning round, but it can't detect anything... Any advice? Thanks.

It's unfortunate that those steps didn't work. Not to worry, I believe we can either use the WPS or USB to wireless method to connect the printer to a wireless network.

Do you have a printer USB cable?

What's the make and model of your wireless router?

Could you also check and let me know if your wireless router has a WPS button on it.

Let me know!

Hi, yes I have a printer USB cable and a WPS button on my router. It’s a Plusnet Hub One router, fibre broadband.

Thanks! WPS setup would be the easiest way to connect the printer to a wireless network, the steps below should help you connect the printer to a wireless network using WPS:

1.) Press and hold the Wireless button on the printer for 5 seconds to start WPS push mode.

2.) Press the WPS button on your router.

Once the printer is connected the wireless light on the printer will become steady.

Keep me posted!

Great! The wifi is now connected to my printer, but now I don't know how to reconnect my printer to my computer...

The HP software is deleted as you recommended, so although my computer now recognises my printer via the firmware I downloaded, the HP software is missing so I don't know how to reconnect the two.

Thanks

You are welcome🙂 Glad to hear that you were able to connect the printer to your home WiFi. You may use the steps below to install the printer software and driver:

1.) Download and run HP Easy Start from here.

2.) When you are prompted to add the printer to the printer queue, click the name of your printer, click the Use or Print Using menu, select AirPrint in the pop-up menu, and then click Add.

Select AirPrint from the Use menu

3.) Try to print.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Every time I try to download the Easy start it downloads and then I can't open the file. It says 'cannot move file' and when I click on it it says it hasn't finished downloading yet (I wait and still the file doesn't open).  I've downloaded easy start before (only a couple of days ago!) so don't know why it won't work now. I've tried it a couple of times.
