I cannot access my printer settings in the EWS as I do not now remember the correct admin password and I cannot find a way to reset it. I have tried all the tips here and I can't find any way to reset the printer to a state that allows me to reset the EWS password! Very frustrating and time wasting. It seems I am not alone. Please can someone help?

@sideshowlol, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I understand you are not able to make changes to the settings on the printer. We need to perform a factory reset on the printer to resolve this issue.
- The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.
- I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.
- In order to access your private messages, click the private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP community profile, next to your profile Name or simply click on this link: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/notes/privatenotespage
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Pinging my question as no response yet.
Please can someone help me to be able to reset my DeskJet 3636 to its default settings as I need to be able to reset the admin password for the embedded web server (EWS)?
Many thanks in advance.

Thought I had possibly managed to figure out a way to log in to the EWS an alternative way, but still no joy.
It seems no one knows how to reliably reset an HP 3636 DeskJet printer! It's very easy to misplace a password when using different computers to login to the EWS. This is not a warranty-type issue. This could happen to anyone at anytime as it's purely a software issue and not down to any hardware issue or wear-and-tear.
Terribly frustrating not being able to reset the printer. It's a shame as the printer itself is well engineered.
Whoever it was at HP who made the decision not to make it easy for an owner of one of their printers to be able to reset the darn thing, eg. over a wired USB connection, needs firing!

So, the steps that worked to reset my HP DJ 3636 were:
- Unplug the power cable from the printer while it is ON
- While plugging in the power cable, press and hold COLOUR COPY and Wifi Direct buttons
- Release them after 3 seconds once the printer powers ON
That reset the printer including the EWS so I ma finally able to log in to make changes to the printer's settings. Yahoo!
Hope this is useful to someone else and saves them a whole lot of frustration.
