I would like the ability to change the default print port to a different port. Is that something commonly available on HP printers? I've been looking for that option on a few models but I have not found anything yet.

Hi @UNCC_Bob,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Changing the default print port on an HP printer can be necessary for network configuration, security, or specific printing requirements. Here are the general steps to change the print port on your HP printer, assuming you're working with Windows. The steps may vary slightly depending on your printer model and driver.
Steps to Change the Default Print Port on an HP Printer
Open Devices and Printers:
- Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog box.
- Type control printers and press Enter to open the Devices and Printers window.
Select Your Printer:
- Locate your printer in the list of installed printers.
- Right-click on the printer and select Printer properties.
Open Ports Tab:
- In the Printer Properties window, go to the Ports tab.
Add a New Port:
- Click on Add Port….
- Select the type of port you need. For network printers, this is usually Standard TCP/IP Port.
- Click New Port… and follow the prompts in the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard.
Configure the New Port:
- Enter the IP address or hostname of your printer.
- If you need to change the port number from the default (9100), you may need to specify this during the wizard setup, depending on the printer model.
Change the Port Number (if applicable):
- If the port number cannot be changed during the wizard setup, you might need to access the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS) or advanced settings.
- Open a web browser and enter the IP address of the printer to access the EWS.
- Look for network settings or configuration options that allow you to change the port number.
Set the New Port as Default:
- Once the new port is added and configured, return to the Ports tab in the Printer Properties window.
- Select the new port from the list and click Apply or OK to set it as the default port for the printer.
Test the Configuration:
- Print a test page to ensure that the printer is correctly configured to use the new port.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
