Need to find a way to set up an old printer on my mac desktop. HP Color Laserjet 3600n to Mac Desktop with Sonoma OS 14.6.1. I cannot find any software/drivers on line or any info to help find a workaround.

Hi @CAB160,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Connecting an older HP Color LaserJet 3600n printer to a Mac running macOS Sonoma 14.6.1 can be challenging, especially if there are no official drivers available from HP. However, you can still try several methods to get it working. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you:
**1. Check macOS Compatibility
macOS Sonoma may not have native drivers for older printers like the HP Color LaserJet 3600n. Therefore, you'll need to use alternative methods or generic drivers.
**2. Use AirPrint (if supported)
Check Printer Compatibility:
- Some older printers may support AirPrint even without dedicated drivers. This can be verified in the printer's manual or HP's website.
Connect Printer to Network:
- Ensure the HP Color LaserJet 3600n is connected to your local network.
Add Printer via macOS:
- Open System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
- Click the Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax button.
- Select your HP Color LaserJet 3600n from the list and add it. If AirPrint is supported, it should appear as an option.
**3. Use Generic PostScript Printer Driver
Open System Settings:
- Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
Add Printer:
- Click the Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax button.
Select Generic Driver:
- When prompted to choose a driver, select “Generic PostScript Printer” or “Generic Color PostScript Printer” from the list. This driver might not support all printer features but should allow basic printing functions.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
