I’m using the HP Smart mobile app on my iOS (15.6) device (iPhone X) and have a new printer added but cannot delete/remove the old printer! How do I do this?
Please do NOT tell me to login to my HP Smart online account (which I use for InstantInk) because the old printer is NOT there. The issue is in the iPhone mobile app and is the first printer displayed and defaulted too.
I’ve searched online and here and every article & instructions are for using the online account/PC app which is not helpful whatsoever.
Honestly deleting/removing something is a very basic feature of just about any software especially when there’s a function to add something. “Add/Edit/Delete” is programming 101.

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.
It does seem like this should "be there" - that is, a printer added to the HP Smart Mobile print app should be able to be removed.
If all else fails, try uninstalling the app from the phone - shut the phone off for a minute - switch on - get a new copy of the app and start over...
OK...
I don't have an iPhone (have instead a weird Android) - I do have an iPad Pro 12.9 that is running iPadOS
In the iPadOS (admittedly not iOs),
The option
Open HP Smart
Tap the green check under the printer name to open Printer Settings
Section Advanced > Hide Printer
HP_Smart_Mobile_Main_Menu_16
What else?
Just FYI ---
In my opinion, the "name everything HP Smart" trend can be a bit confusing outside of context.
The advice to open your HP Smart account to remove might refer to your HP Account Dashboard.
If not, simply ignore the following...
Your HP Account Dashboard is a resource of your registered / added devices.
HP Account - Login / Dashboard
Notes:
- Log into your HP Account if / when you need central access to your device information, including the ability to update your personal information.
- Printers that are / were subscribed to Instant Ink might resist being removed and will remain in the list.
- Open and Read >>> HP Support Personal Dashboard Resource Guide
- Device renaming in the Dashboard does not rename the printer in Devices and Printers (Windows)
Example - HP Account Dashboard - My Devices
HP_Account_Dashboard_4

Thanks Dragon-Fur.
Yeah, I was thinking an app delete and reinstall might be needed (and sadly always seems to be many ‘official’ customer support solutions just like the age old “your polarity is backwards so flip your plug over” let’s treat users like idjits method - I’ve been in IT for 35 years - Chemist turned IT geek with instrument interfacing, systems, infrastructure, comms, DB admin, development, QA/QC and more at national and global levels and always appreciated being asked what my level of technical knowledge was when initially contacting support. All that said…
I’ve logged into the HP Smart “Dashboard” and have no devices there despite initial device registration under that ID and signing up for InstantInk which does show the device when logging into that “dashboard”. That section of what you suggested interestingly indicates that a printer signed up for InstantInk may resist removal. The old printer was signed up for InstantInk but was deleted from there quite some time ago. Definite failure to normalize databases to a user/account level.
As far as the “hide device” method that would sort of accomplish the task (let’s not quabble that hiding isn’t the same as removal) except for the fact that it can’t be done for a device the app says is unavailable. Clicking where that green checkmark is on an available device simply brings you to an info popup telling you how to try and get it back online. Impossible when you no longer have the device… Again - utter feature failure missed by use case design/testing.
I know (suspect at least) you’re not an HP employee so I’m definitely not ranting at you and really appreciate the reply and help.
