Hi everyone!
I just bought the new 8730 printer. Is quite good but now one of the colour cartridges is empty. Just on! And now each time I am sending a printer job to the printer there is this very annoying notification on the printer screen "Use black cartridge only?". Every printer job i have to confirm this notification on the printer.
There are many devices using the printer (and of course it is said to be an "office" printer). On windows 7 you even have to confirm twice!!!!! Once on the computer and then on the printer itself – There should (I am inclined to say there "must") be a possibility to switch this annoying notifications of. Sometimes you just have to print b/w even when the colour cartridges are empty – and of course as an "office" printer this should be an option to the user.
Is there a possibility to switch this notifications off?

Hi! @DrAxelbauer, Welcome to HP forums.
I understand you would like to know how to disable use black cartridge only error.
Don't worry I'll try to help you out.
Did you make any changes to your printer?
Are you using HP genuine ink cartridges?
Excellent description and a great diagnosis done. It is greatly appreciated.
The printer must reserve enough ink for the servicing tasks that keep the printhead functioning. If there is enough ink for servicing and for printing with black ink only, or color ink only, then that message displays. If there is not enough ink for both printing and servicing, then the cartridge must be replaced
Refer this article to know more information about printing when one HP Ink cartridge is empty. Click Here
Check the ink levels on your printer and replace the low, empty or faulty ink cartridges.
Remove, inspect, then reseat the ink cartridges
However, you can try the steps recommended below and check if it helps.
Go to Printer Control Panel
Select Printer Sharing
Right click on HP printer
Select Printer Properties
Select Change Properties in lower left
Select Device Settings
Select Printer Status Notifications
Change to Disable
Save
The following conditions describe the possible situations that can enable or disable the Printer Status Notification setting in the driver's Device Settings properties.

Thanks for your reply. My regions support told me the same. Still I don't quite get it why there is NO POSSIBILITY to switch the NOTIFICATION of. My question was around the NOTIFICATION not the empty cartridge itself.
I understand that there empty cartridges must be replaced in order to maintain the printer functioning, but this is not the question here.
Any other suggestions?
Besides 😉 I guess I am a victim to a turing test 😉

@DrAxelbauer, Thanks for your prompt response and time.
I appreciate your efforts for writing back to us.
Did you try the steps recommended from my previous post to disable the printer notification?
Press OK on the printer control panel, or click OK on the computer screen to close the message and continue with the print job.
In general, low ink levels should not impact print quality. Your printer stops and displays a message when ink levels get too low. However, the printer might still perform a limited amount of printing in 'backup mode' at low ink levels. In backup mode, blacks might not be as dark, or printouts might be in grayscale (shades of gray with no color). Replace any low ink cartridges if backup mode printing is unacceptable.
If you still have issues after trying out the steps. There is nothing much we can do apart from replacing the ink cartridges.
Hope this answers your query!
Take Care! 🙂
