Hi - I recently bought a non HP ink cartridge and installed it into my HP ENVY 7640 printer. I have an error message indicating that the printer does not recognize this cartridge and recommends that I install an HP printer ink cartridge.
Is there a firmware patch to disable the Dynamic Security feature on this printer such that I can use a non-HP ink catrdige.

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.
As such, there is no firmware patch for it. You may go through this document to understand this feature:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05310148
You can also try resetting the Printer:
- Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
- Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
- NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
- Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
- Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
- Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
Let me know if this helps.

I tried the suggested solution of disconnecting the power from the printer, waiting for up to 15 mins and then re-connecting the power to the printer - it still does not work and the printer still does not read the replacement ink cartridge.

HP has a firmware update that removes the dynamic security feature. The update is available only for the printers listed in this document.
HP recommends that you use genuine HP ink or toner supplies. HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP or refilled cartridges. If you do not use genuine HP cartridges, the steps in this document might not resolve the issue. To check the authenticity of your cartridges, go to the HP anti-counterfeit website (in English).
If you would like to remove the dynamic security feature, go to the Software and Drivers Downloads page for your printer to install the latest firmware version. See Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware for more details. HP recommends you keep your firmware up to date for best results.
HP Officejet Pro 6970, 7740, 8210, 8700, Officejet 6950, PageWide 300, 400, and 500 printers: this update disables dynamic security for printers manufactured before December 1, 2016. For printers manufactured on December 1, 2016 or later, dynamic security remains functional with this update.
HP OfficeJet 6810, 6820, OfficeJet Pro 6230, 6830, 8610, 8620, 8630, 8640, 8660, X451dn/dw, X476dn/dw, X551dw, and X576dw printers: this update disables dynamic security for all printers, no matter the date of manufacture.
If the cartridge still fails after the feature is removed, then the cartridge is most likely defective and should be returned to your retailer.
Refer to this document: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05308850 for Dynamic Security Feature.
Keep me posted, how it goes!
