My father has a new laptop.  I am trying to set up his printer wirelessly but he doesn’t have the pin.  It’s an HP Envy 6400.
Is there a way to recover the pin or to set it up wirelessly without the pin?

Hi @Lisa19611,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're trying to set up your HP Envy 6400 printer wirelessly and don't have the PIN, you can usually find the WPS PIN on a label on the printer itself. However, if that's not the case or you can't locate the PIN, you can try the following steps.

Use WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup):

  • Press the WPS button on your router.
  • On your HP Envy 6400, press the Wireless button or navigate to the wireless settings menu.
  • Select WPS and follow the on-screen instructions. This may involve pressing a WPS button on the printer within a certain time frame after pressing the WPS button on the router.

Setup without the PIN:

  • Go to the control panel on your printer.
  • Choose the wireless/network settings.
  • Select the wireless setup wizard.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to connect to your Wi-Fi network.

HP Smart App:

  • Install the HP Smart app on a smartphone or tablet.
  • Open the app and follow the instructions to set up your printer.
  • The app may guide you through connecting the printer to the wireless network.

Connect via USB:

  • Temporarily connect the printer to your computer using a USB cable.
  • Run the HP software that came with the printer.
  • During the installation process, you should have the option to configure the wireless settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
