I recently got an OfficeJet Pro 9010. I did not expect it to have a top-of-the-line photo printing capability, but I did expect very good quality. So far, I have been very disappointed.
I have tried printing directly from the HP Smart app as well as from Photoshop. In both cases, the colors in the prints seem very off.
I use a Microsoft Surface Pro and I understand that the display renders colors very realistically, so that is what I expected to see on the print. The images look great on-screen and poor in print.
I tried using Photoshop to give me more control. Maybe I did not configure it right or well...
Anyone out there who has figured this all out? Some questions:
- In Photoshop, is your image mode and/or color profile set to RGB or CYMK? Which specific setting works best?
- Are there other Photoshop settings that should be chosen?
- Does the photo paper make a big difference? I have tried Canon and HP glossy papers with equally poor results
- Are there settings in the OfficeJet that need to be tweaked? For example, choosing "best quality" in the printer dialog, etc? BTW, I did choose Best Quality...didn't help.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to HP support community.
Did you make a copy and check if that prints fine?
Meanwhile:
Print a Print Quality Diagnostic Page
-
Load plain white paper in the input tray.
-
On the printer control panel, swipe down to open the Dashboard, and then touch the Setup icon
.
-
Swipe up on the display, touch Reports, and then touch Print Quality Report.
A Print Quality Diagnostic Page prints.
If that does not print fine, follow the below steps:
Clean the printhead
-
On the printer control panel, swipe down to open the Dashboard, and then touch the Setup icon
.
-
Swipe up on the display, and then touch Printer Maintenance.
-
Touch Clean Printhead, and then touch Continue.
A test page prints.
-
Examine the test page.
-
If the print quality is unacceptable, touch Clean Again to continue the next level of cleaning. Repeat these steps for the third cleaning stage, if necessary.
NOTE:
If the printhead is badly clogged, it might require another cleaning cycle. If so, wait 30 minutes before you perform all three levels of cleaning again.
-
If the print quality is acceptable, touch Done.
