Hi @Barbie47,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
It can be challenging to install a modern printer like the HP DeskJet 2800e series on an older Windows 7 computer without an internet connection.
The printer-compatible version OS is as below.
However, let's try a few steps.
- Do you have a USB cable to connect the printer directly to the computer?
- Do you have access to another device with internet to download the necessary drivers?
- Is the Windows 7 computer fully updated with Service Pack 1 and any required updates?
Check USB Cable Connection:
- Connect the printer to the computer using a USB cable. Modern HP printers often work in "plug-and-play" mode on Windows, which may install basic drivers automatically if available.
Download Drivers on Another Device:
- Using a computer with internet access, go to the HP Drivers and Software page.
- Search for the HP DeskJet 2800e series, select Windows 7, and download the basic or full-feature driver.
- Transfer the downloaded file to the Windows 7 computer using a USB flash drive.
Install the Printer Drivers:
- On the Windows 7 computer, run the driver installation file you transferred.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup. When prompted, choose USB Connection since there's no internet.
Manually Add the Printer (If Needed):
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Add a Printer.
- Select Add a Local Printer and choose the appropriate port (usually USB001).
- Browse to the location of the downloaded driver if required.
Test the Printer:
- Print a test page to confirm the setup is successful:
- Go to Devices and Printers, right-click on the printer, and select Printer Properties.
- Click Print Test Page.
Tips:
- If the printer driver is not available for Windows 7, HP might not officially support this older operating system for that model. You can try a compatible driver for a similar HP printer (e.g., DeskJet 2600 series) as a workaround.
- Ensure Windows 7 has Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed, as it improves compatibility with newer devices.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
