@AndrewCholagh, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Here's how you can manually update the firmware on your HP printer via USB:

Steps to Manually Update HP Printer Firmware via USB

Important: This method is typically used when the printer is not connected to the internet or network. Make sure the printer is powered on and idle before proceeding.

Step 1: Download the Firmware File

  1. Go to the official HP support page: HP Printer Firmware Update.
  2. Enter your printer model in the search bar.
  3. Select your operating system.
  4. Under the Firmware section, download the latest firmware file (usually a .ful or .rfu file).

Step 2: Prepare a USB Flash Drive

  • Format the USB drive to FAT32.
  • Copy the downloaded firmware file to the root directory of the USB drive (not inside any folder).

Step 3: Install Firmware via USB

  1. Insert the USB flash drive into the USB port on the printer.
  2. On the printer control panel:
    • Go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update Firmware > USB Thumb Drive.
    • Select the firmware file from the list.
    • Confirm to begin the update.

Do not turn off the printer during the update process. It may take several minutes and the printer may restart automatically.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • If the printer does not detect the firmware file, ensure:
    • The file is not inside a folder.
    • The USB drive is formatted correctly (FAT32).
    • The firmware file matches your printer model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
