Hello.
I recently purchased an HP Envy 7858 All-in-One Color Photo Printer because I want to print some photos.
I also purchased the HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer because, and I hope I'm not sounding repetitive, I wanted to print some photos. I never did get that 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer to print photos, even though it claims it can, but NEVERMIND, as my account shows, the warranty has expired for that printer and it did break.
So, now I have the HP Envy 7858 All-in-One Color PHOTO PRINTER.
I purchased some photo paper for this photo printer, and I loaded the photo paper into the photo tray, and then I went to my computer, opened up a PDF with a nice photo, clicked on the menu to print, selected the HP Envy 7858, and I selected for it to print on PHOTO PAPER.
The device bumbled about for about 10 seconds.
And then it told me there was no plain paper in the printer, which was true. It also said there was PHOTO PAPER in the printer. But it cannot print my PHOTO on the PHOTO PAPER that is correctly loaded into this PHOTO PRINTER.
I don't want to print my photos on plain paper.
I want to print my photos on photo paper.
So, how, now that I have purchased two HP Photo Printers, both of which claim they can print on 3x5 or 4x6 PHOTO PAPER, do I actually, truly, honestly, really really print... a photo.
Or is the HP Envy 7858 totally worthless because it cannot actually print photos on the photo paper that I loaded into the photo tray and after I selected to print a photo on the Envy 7858 photo printer on my computer?
I'm going to make a huge leap of judgment and make the guess that actually this photo printer doesn't print photos.
Ok, fine.
So, if this is the case (and I think it is), I will buy a new PHOTO PRINTER from HP for, get this, the purpose of printing photos.
Can someone in HP Support direct me to a PHOTO PRINTER that HP sells, hopefully one of the relatively few printers that HP has on sale right now, that, you guessed it, can PRINT PHOTOS?
Mainly what this comes down to is I don't want to buy four printers from HP, all of which claimed to print on (variously) 3x5 or 4x6 photo paper, but, so far, none of which has ever actually done this.
Is anyone in HP support sufficiently knowledgeable about printing on (in my current case) 4x6 photo paper for an HP Envy 7858 photo printer, or knows of an HP photo printer that can?
Of the HP printers that are currently on sale, the HP6055e claims that it can print on 3x5 and 4x6 photo paper as well as "card stock" up to 80 lbs.
Normally I would believe this and just buy it. But not now. I have to ask if, in fact, it really can do all that it claims.

Bonjour @PrinterSystem- ,
Vérifiez les paramètres du périphérique dans les propriétés d'impression et assurez-vous que 4x6 est sélectionné.

Welcome to the HP Community --
I am not sure I've sorted all that you are asking.
I think you have an HP ENVY Photo 7858 All-in-One Printer
I do not find where you told us your Operating System / version (I might have missed it).
The OS / version is important because it gives us at least an idea of the app or software you are using to print.
The app or software you are using tells us where to look to help you decide how to adjust the settings.

Answer - Part 2
This printer has a photo tray.
The Photo Tray supports a limited number of sizes of photo paper.
EWS > HP Document / How-to
Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)
EWS – Browser – Tray and Paper Management
Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar
Tab Settings > Preferences > Tray and Paper (Management)
Select / Adjust settings for Paper Size / Type
Model Dependent: Advanced section
Click Apply to save changes
Tray and Paper – Paper Size / Paper Type / Paper Weight
Reminder
HP Smart Mobile requires that paper size / type is adjusted before the content is opened to be printed.
Paper Size, Type, and Weight loaded in the printer tray must be supported for use in that tray.
EWS provides access and control to check / adjust Tray and Paper Settings.
Note
Depending on the printer model, the Printer Control Panel might provide access to Paper Size / Type settings immediately after the paper is (re)loaded into the appropriate printer intake tray.
Custom size?
If EWS does not allow setting the paper size or size “Custom”, look for the setting to do so in the Printer Control Panel after (re)loading the paper to be used
What?
Paper Size, Type, and Weight must be appropriate for the tray in which that paper is to be used.
Depending on the printer model, Tray 1 might be used for Custom media.
In this scenario, Tray 2 might only support Plain paper.
OR
If the "Custom Paper Tray" is Tray 2, then Tray 1 might only support Plain paper.
Printers that include a Photo Tray generally place limitations on the size and type of paper that the Photo Tray supports. Example: Depending on the printer model, the Photo Tray might support only 4x6 inch photo paper.

Answer - Part 3
@Bernard42is correct -- you must adjust the paper size / type settings in your app or software.
How you configure your job for the printer goes back to the Operating System / version you are running on your device (computer, tablet, phone) AND which app or software you are using to print your photo on supported paper.
