Hi @handmaiden,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are trying to print on cardstock paper with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 All-in-One Printer, follow these steps:

Step 1: Load Cardstock Paper

  1. Remove any regular paper from the input tray.
  2. Adjust the paper width guides to fit the size of your cardstock.
  3. Place the cardstock into the input tray, ensuring that the printable side is facing down. The printer supports cardstock up to 110 lb (199 g/m²), but check the cardstock weight to ensure compatibility.
  4. Push the cardstock in gently until it stops, and adjust the guides to ensure the paper is aligned.

Step 2: Set Paper Type and Quality in Printer Settings (Windows)

  1. Open the document or image you want to print.
  2. Click File, then select Print.
  3. In the print dialog, click on Properties, Printer Properties, or Preferences (the wording may vary depending on the app).
  4. In the Paper/Quality tab:
    • Under Paper Type, select Cardstock or Thick Paper (if available). If this option isn't there, choose a similar option such as Heavy Paper.
    • Set the Print Quality to Best to ensure the best output.
  5. In the Advanced settings, if available, confirm the correct Paper Size and Media Type are selected.
  6. Click OK to close the settings, then click Print.

Step 3: Set Paper Type and Quality in Printer Settings (Mac)

  1. Open the document or image and click File > Print.
  2. In the print dialog box, click on Show Details (if hidden).
  3. Select your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 from the printer list.
  4. Under Paper Type/Quality, set the Media Type to Cardstock or Heavy Paper.
  5. Set the Print Quality to Best.
  6. Click Print.

Step 4: Test Print

Perform a test print to check if the settings produce the desired results. You may need to adjust the settings slightly depending on the thickness of the cardstock you're using.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
