HP Color Laser MFP 179fnw
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

Hello everyone,

HP has replaced 🙂 my defective printer: a Color Laser MFP 179fnw.
but since it was a standard exchange, I don't have the login and password for this new printer (and it is no longer under warranty). How can I recover or reset the printer's web administration login and password?
Thank you very much for your help.

Hi@Beniby,

Welcome to the HP Support Community! I'd like to help!

I see you are experiencing login issues with the HP Color Laser MFP 179fnw.

Let's try these steps -

Step 1 Network Restore -
1) From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch ( Setup).
2) Touch Network Setup.
3) Touch Restore Network Settings.
A message appears stating that the network defaults will be restored.
4) Touch Yes.

Step 2 Reboot the devices -
1) Turn off the Router, Printer, and the computer.
2) Wait for 60 seconds.
3) Turn on the Router first and wait for all the lights to stabilize.
4) Turn on the printer and allow it to configure itself.
5) Turn on the computer.

Step 3 Run Wireless Wizard -
1) From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch (Wireless).
2) Touch ( Settings ).
3) Touch Wireless Settings.
4) Touch Wireless Setup Wizard or Wi-Fi Protected Setup.
5) Follow the display instructions to complete the setup.

Restoring the network defaults will restore the password too, but you will need to reconfigure the printer for your wireless network.

To restore the network defaults, touch the little wrench on the top of the printer front panel, then navigate to and select Wireless. In the Wireless menu, choose Restore Network Defaults.

After the defaults are restored, return to the Wireless menu, choose Wireless Setup Wizard, and follow the on screen instructions to reconnect to the network again.

Now you can go back to the Embedded Web Server (the printers IP address might be different, you may need to check the wireless menu).

Initialize the printer settings. Select Device settings > Reset settings > Reset all in the setup menu and then select Yes, restore to default administrator password.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
