Hi,

when setting up the printer it was given a password but this has been forgotten, is there anyway to change this password, I have tried online by putting the pin in but it asks for the current password which I don’t have. I’m using my iPhone to do this as I don’t have access to a pc. Thanks

Hi @Shearer1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it is to be stuck during setup because of a forgotten password. The good news is HP provides a way to reset the printer to factory defaults, which clears the password and lets you start fresh.

Steps to Reset Password on DeskJet 2820e

Since you’re using an iPhone and don’t have a PC, here’s the easiest method:

Option 1: Restore Network Settings

  1. On the printer, press and hold the Wireless button and the Cancel button together for 5 seconds.
  2. The printer will reset its network settings (including Wi-Fi password and any custom password).
  3. Reconnect the printer using the HP app on your iPhone.

Option 2: Full Factory Reset

  1. Press and hold the Wireless + Cancel + Power button for about 10 seconds.
  2. The printer will restart and return to factory defaults.
  3. Set it up again using the HP app.

After Reset

  • Open the HP App on your iPhone.
  • Add the printer again and create a new password if needed.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
