Hello,

How do I reset the password I'm constantly asked to enter when I go to the HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 EWS page?  Once at the Embedded Web Server page, I go to  Settings > Security, then for either : Password Admin, or Admin Settings, (or) Restore Defaults, or at Tools > Printer Update > Firmware Update etc.... I'm constantly asked for a Username and Password, and I have no idea what it is, or ever was, when I first set up my printer years ago.

Upon searching for solutions, I arrived at somebody's post about using the little screen on the actual printer itself, press the location of the "back" button, (even though it's not lit up) press that location "4" times, which then brought me to the option of "Support Menu", then "Semi-Full Reset", which I did, and upon wasting all that time I still can't reset a password that works on the printers EWS page.

What now?  Apparently I have some "administrator password" set in place, maybe I did that years ago, or there is some default password in place that was applied when I first set up my printer some years ago, either way I have no idea what it is.

If I want to update firmware and on the EWS page, I go "Tools" > Printer Updates > Firmware Update, and yet again, I am asked for some mysterious password that I do not know.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi @iBzapper1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're unable to reset the password using the "Semi-Full Reset" option and are still prompted for a username and password on the Embedded Web Server (EWS) page, you might need to perform a more thorough reset. Here's a step-by-step guide.

Note: Performing a factory reset will erase all custom settings, including network settings. Make sure to have the necessary network information (SSID, password, etc.) on hand before proceeding.

Perform a Full Reset:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Wait for about 10 seconds.
  • Turn on the printer.

Access the Support Menu:

  • On the printer control panel, press the location of the "back" button (even if it's not lit up) four times to access the Support Menu.

Perform a Full Reset from the Support Menu:

  • Navigate through the menu to find and select "Reset Menu" or a similar option.
  • Choose "Semi-Full Reset" or a similar option.

Restart the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Wait for about 10 seconds.
  • Turn on the printer.

Access the EWS Page:

  • Connect your computer or device to the same network as your printer.
  • Open a web browser and enter the printer's IP address in the address bar. You can find the printer's IP address by printing a network configuration page from the printer.

Access the EWS Settings:

  • Once on the EWS page, go to "Settings" > "Security."
  • Try using the default username "admin" and leave the password field blank. If this doesn't work, proceed to the next step.

Note: Keep in mind that these steps might slightly vary based on the printer model and firmware version. If you have the printer's manual, it can be a helpful resource for specific instructions.

Remember to update your printer firmware once the password issue is resolved to ensure the latest features and security updates are applied.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Alden4

I appreciate your help, but I explained upfront in my post that I already performed a "Semi-Full Reset" from my printers option screen.

I tried entering the username only "admin" that did nothing, Then you state "If this doesn't work, proceed to the next step", but you don't list any next step.

So none of what you offered helped unfortunately.
