@Taddy2, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP DeskJet 2132 printer is not recognized by HP Smart, which is preventing you from scanning (even though you can print from other applications), try the following troubleshooting steps:
Check Connection
- If connected via USB, unplug the cable and reconnect it to a different USB port.
- If using a network connection, ensure that both the printer and your PC are connected to the same network.
Restart Devices
- Power off the printer and unplug it for about 30 seconds.
- Restart your computer.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
Check Windows Scan Functionality
Before troubleshooting HP Smart, verify if Windows Scan can detect the scanner:
- Open Windows Fax and Scan by pressing Windows + S and searching for it.
- Click on New Scan and check if your printer is listed.
- If it appears, try scanning a document.
Reinstall HP Smart
- Uninstall HP Smart from Settings > Apps.
- Restart your PC.
- Download and reinstall HP Smart from the Microsoft Store.
Reinstall the Full Driver Package
- Uninstall existing HP drivers from Control Panel > Programs & Features.
- Restart your PC.
- Download and install the full feature driver from the HP Support Page.
- Follow the setup wizard and check if scanning works.
Use HP Print and Scan Doctor
- Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.
- Run the tool and follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and fix issues.
Check Windows Services
- Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- Locate Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).
- Ensure its status is Running. If it’s not, right-click and select Start.
- Set the Startup Type to Automatic.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
