Hp envy 6100e keeps asking me to set up instant ink which I've done

Keeps asking me to set up instant ink which I've done but as the printer I have was a friends I don't think it's letting me add the printer to my account

You should know that Instant Ink is an optional subscription contract.

Reasons for the message --

Possibly ---

• The friend had an Instant Ink subscription and left the account / contract on the printer rather than cancelling the contract and removing the Instant Ink cartridges.   (Instant Ink cartridges only work with an active subscription and the original contract.)

• The friend had an Instant Ink subscription and did cancel the subscription.  The Instant Ink / Subscription cartridges are still in the printer and cannot be used.  The message does not understand the reason and suggests (demands) that you subscribe to use the printer.

• The friend had an Instant Ink subscription and did cancel the subscription.  The  Instant Ink / Subscription cartridges have been removed.  The printer is confused and cannot read the newly installed HP ink cartridges.  The message is a result of the printer's confusion about the underlying reason for the printer and ink not working.

If you are in contact with the friend, you can ask whether the friend recognizes any of the reasons the printer is asking (demanding) that you subscribe to Instant Ink.

Even if you are not in contact with the friend, any issues can be sorted.

HP Instant Ink is a Print-by-Page subscription service for which you are charged a monthly fee for a set number of printed pages.  (Each side of the paper is counted as a separate Page.)

While there is no additional charge for the ink, the service is not free and does charge each month.

IMPORTANT -- Ink is supplied only with an active subscription -

After the service is terminated by you or HP, all subscription ink cartridges stop working and must (should) be returned to HP.

Selecting the right number of pages for your plan is important.

What is "Free Ink"?

There is no extra cost for ink.

Ink is provided as part of your subscription - use a drop or use a cup full, ink is included at no extra cost.

Important

After the initial Ink Kit is mailed out, ink is sent (only) when the printer notifies the service that ink is depleted and a shipment is needed.

• All ink activated by the plan and all ink sent to you works as along as the trail / subscription service is active.

• Subscription / Instant Ink remains the property of HP and should be returned to HP at close (termination) of the service contract.
