Hi @Betsy97,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP ENVY 7645 e-All-in-One Printer is having trouble communicating with your laptop, resulting in the "printer needs attention" message. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot the issue:
Steps to Fix the Issue:
Check Printer Status:
- Ensure the printer is turned on, connected to the same network as your laptop, and has paper and ink.
- Check the printer's screen for any specific error messages or alerts.
Restart Devices:
- Power off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Restart your laptop.
- After a minute, plug the printer back in and turn it on.
Clear Print Queue:
- On your laptop, go to the Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click on your HP ENVY 7645 and choose See what's printing.
- If there are stuck jobs, clear the queue by selecting them and clicking Cancel.
Update Printer Drivers:
- Visit the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for the HP ENVY 7645.
- Install the updated driver and restart your computer to ensure everything is set up properly.
Re-add the Printer:
- In Devices and Printers, right-click on your printer and choose Remove device.
- Then click on Add a printer and follow the prompts to re-add your printer.
HP Print and Scan Doctor: HP Print and Scan Doctor
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool. This tool can automatically diagnose and resolve printing issues.
Check Network Connection:
- Verify that your laptop and printer are on the same Wi-Fi network.
- You may need to reconnect your printer to the network by using the printer's control panel.
Firewall/Security Software:
- Sometimes, firewall or security software can block communication between your laptop and the printer. Temporarily disable them and see if you can print.
Test from Another Device:
- Try printing from another device (e.g., smartphone or another laptop) to determine if the issue is isolated to your laptop or is printer-wide.

I hope this helps.
