Just installed four brand new original Hp XL ink cartridges to my more than 10 years old Hp deskjet 3520 and the printer complains that the ink is not compatible/not genuine Hp.  Can it be because the printer was bought in Sweden and the ink in Hong Kong? Software driver has been updated.

Yes, it is related.

 

When you move with the printer from one country to another, you must contact HP Support to reset the printer for your current country, else the ink cartridges will be rejected.

 

Make sure the printer is connected and configured on a Windows PC or a Mac computer and have a full set of genuine HP 564 cartridges available in hand (Black, Magenta, Yellow, and Cyan).

Next, contact HP Support in Hong-Kong to reset the printer for your current country, it would be most easy to contact HP Support via Facebook as suggested below, as your printer is out of warranty:
