I cannot figure out how to print out a return label.

when I press print it takes me to ‘documents’ and that is not where it is. I even sent it to my email & it still took me to my documents file.

Hi @Ultradumb,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can feel the frustration in your words. You’re just trying to print a simple Amazon return label, and instead of helping, your computer keeps dragging you into the Documents folder like a stubborn door that won’t open the way you expect.

Take a breath, you’re not doing anything wrong, and we can fix this together. Your HP Smart Tank printer can print that label. The issue is happening on the computer side, not the printer. Here’s the gentle, step‑by‑step HP guidance to get you printing smoothly.

TRY THESE HP-RECOMMENDED FIXES

1. Don’t use the Amazon "Print Label" image preview

Instead, click:

“Download label” → THEN open it → THEN print

This forces Windows to open the PDF viewer, not the file browser.

Steps:

  1. Go to your Amazon orders
  2. Select Return / Replace Items
  3. Choose Print return label
  4. Look for: Download label
  5. After it downloads → double-click to open it, then press Ctrl + P
  6. Make sure your HP Smart Tank printer is selected
  7. Print

This avoids the “Documents” pop‑up completely.

2. If you emailed the label to yourself

Opening the PDF directly from email should give you the correct print window, NOT Documents.

Try this:

  1. Open the email on your computer
  2. Download the PDF from the email (don’t print from the preview)
  3. Open the downloaded file, Press Ctrl + P

You should see the real print dialog now.

3. Try a different browser (this fixes it often)

Some browsers pop up the “Save As” window instead of printing.

Try opening Amazon in:

  • Chrome
  • Microsoft Edge
  • or Firefox

Then try printing again.

4. Make sure your printer is selected as the default

Sometimes Amazon tries to print to a nonexistent printer or PDF generator.

  1. On Windows, open Settings
  2. Go to Bluetooth & Devices → Printers & Scanners
  3. Click your HP Smart Tank
  4. Select Set as default

Now printing should go straight to your HP printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
