Subject: Display issue in HP Smart app settings (HP DeskJet 4120)

Hi,
I own an HP DeskJet 4120 printer and I'm trying to access the settings through the HP Smart app.
However, when I open the settings screen, the display appears reversed — all the text is shown right to left, instead of left to right (for example, English text is displayed backwards).

I tried restarting the app, but the issue remains.

The app version is  4B1138DF-D

Has anyone encountered this problem?
Is there a way to fix the language direction or correct the display orientation?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi @Aviarad

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If you're experiencing display issues where the text appears reversed in the HP Smart app settings for your HP DeskJet 4120 printer, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

1. Check HP Smart App Language Settings

Sometimes the app defaults to a right-to-left (RTL) language like Hebrew or Arabic, even when English is selected.

  • Open the HP Smart app
  • Go to Settings or Preferences
  • Change the language to English (United States) explicitly—even if it already appears selected
  • Restart the app and check if the display normalizes

2. Verify System Language and Region

Your device’s system language can influence how the app renders text.

On Windows:
Go to Settings > Time & Language > Language
Ensure English (United States) is set as the default

On macOS:
Go to System Settings > General > Language & Region
Set Preferred Language to English and restart the app

3. Update the HP Smart App

This issue may be tied to a specific app version. Updating could resolve it.

  • On Windows: Open the Microsoft Store, search for HP Smart, and click Update
  • On macOS: Use the App Store to check for updates

4. Reinstall the App

If the issue persists, a clean reinstall may help.

  • Uninstall HP Smart from your device
  • Restart your computer
  • Reinstall the app from the official store

5. Check Display Scaling and Orientation

Unusual scaling or orientation settings can distort app layout.

  • On Windows:
    Go to Settings > Display
Set Scale to 100% and Orientation to Landscape

6 Check Device Language Settings:

  • Ensure that your mobile device's language settings are correct. Sometimes device language settings can affect the way apps display text.

7. App Cache:

  • Clear the cache of the HP Smart app. This operation can remove temporary data that might be causing the issue:
    • On Android, go to Settings > Apps > HP Smart > Storage > Clear Cache.
    • On iOS, you might need to uninstall and reinstall the app to clear the cache.

You're clearly being thorough—let’s get that display behaving properly.
