Hi @JohannaM13,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Product. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.
The E5 error message on your HP DeskJet Plus 4122 All-in-One Printer typically indicates an issue with the printer carriage. This could be due to a variety of reasons such as a paper jam, obstruction in the printer path, or a hardware issue. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
- Check for Paper Jams: Open the printer cover and check for any paper jams or obstructions in the printer's paper path. If you find any, carefully remove the jammed paper.
- Reset the Printer: Turn off the printer, disconnect the power cord from the power outlet, and wait for about 60 seconds. Then, reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer. This can sometimes reset the printer and clear the error.
- Check Carriage Movement: Make sure the carriage (the part of the printer that holds the ink cartridges) can move freely from one side to the other. If it's stuck or obstructed, gently move it to its central position.
- Inspect Ink Cartridges: Ensure that the ink cartridges are properly installed and securely seated in their respective slots. If any cartridge is low on ink or empty, consider replacing it.
- Update Printer Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model on the HP website. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve compatibility issues and improve printer performance. Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Clean the Cartridge Contacts: Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord. Remove the ink cartridges and clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridges and the printer using a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water. Allow them to dry completely before reinstalling the cartridges.
