Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello. This is my first post here. I am at a loss as to what I'm doing wrong. I have a 1512 printer and the driver somehow became corrupted. I deleted it and reinstalled it after I downloaded it again from HP. But I'm not getting the assistant or whatever it's called that I had before that allows you to check ink levels and operate the scanner. I have been fighting with this for two days now trying to figure out why I can't seem to get that particular software. I have downloaded the same driver file about 5 times now. I ran the print and scan doctor thinking that might help but it says I am missing the scan application software. I follow the links to go get it and end up right where I always do, the same stupid driver package that I have downliaded so many times. Can anyone help?

@Mike208H,

Thank you for posting your query on HP Support Community,

Let's try to uninstall the printer from the root level and then reinstall it by following the steps suggested below:

  • Press “Windows key” + “r” to get the “Run” window.
  • Type "services.msc" to get Services – Go to “Print spooler” – Right-click and “Stop” the service.
  • Now again open "Run" - Type “spool” and ok - Go to PRINTERS folder - delete everything in that folder.
  • Go to services again - Start the print spooler.
  • Now check for issue resolution.
  • If the issue persists, also try clean installing the printer drivers. Here are the steps:
  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Officejet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Please click here to download and install the software.
  • Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Alternatively, you can try to use HP Scan and capture app for scanning - HP Printers - Using the HP Scan and Capture App (Windows 10, 😎

I completely removed all of the HP software as you suggested and did a clean reinstall but that particular file still did not appear on the desktop. But I did eventually get it. I right clicked on a HP file in the start menu and there was "install". That installed the HP Deskjet 1510 series file to the desktop and now I have acess to the printer and scanner. I don't ever recall having to do this when I first got the printer so I'm clueless as to why I had to do it that way. I was just looking for anything to get that file and that's why I did what I did.
