HP ENVY 6065e All-in-One Printer

I received a gift of an HP Envy printer. I am a college student in the dorms and I recently got news from my University IT helpdesk that I will not be able to connect to the school internet for protected reasons ( for other devices just not printers). They told me to use a USB cord to connect to the printer and computer. Although before I get a USB cord from the store will I be able to connect to it that way? The manual says that I can't do it for the setup which I still haven't done because I have not been able to since I don't have it connected to the WIFI.  I am truly confused at this point. Could someone please guide me about my next move? Thanks for your time!

Hi @yv8,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I see you need help with the printer connectivity. You can always try connecting the printer using an alternate method called wifi-direct. I have shared the steps below:
Print with Wi-Fi Direct (iOS, iPadOS)

  • Send a print job using a Wi-Fi Direct printer connection. Complete these steps while next to the printer.
  • How to Print from iOS to an HP Printer Using Wi-Fi Direct

  • Find the Wi-Fi Direct name and password. For example, DIRECT-72-HP OfficeJet Pro 6970.
  • HP Smart app: From the app home screen, click the image of your printer, and then click Advanced Settings to open the printer Embedded Web Server (EWS). From the EWS home page, click the Network or Networking tab, and then click Wi-Fi Direct > Setup or Wi-Fi Direct Setup to view the Wi-Fi Direct name and password.
  • LOCATION OF WI-FI DIRECT NAME AND PASSWORD FOR MOST HP PRINTERS (LEFT) AND HP LASERJET PRINTERS (RIGHT)
  • Locations of Wi-Fi Direct name and password in the EWS
  • Printers with a touchscreen control panel: On the control panel, touch the Wi-Fi Direct icon to view the Wi-Fi Direct name and password.
  • Viewing the Wi-Fi Direct details menu
  • Printers without a touchscreen control panel: On the control panel, press the Information button to print an Information Report. Printing reports from the control panel can vary by printer model.
  • Location of the Wi-Fi Direct section on a network configuration report
  • Depending on your printer, another method might be:
  • Press and hold the Wi-Fi Direct button for 3 seconds.
  • Press the Wi-Fi Direct and Information buttons at the same time.
  • Press and hold the Resume button ( or ) for up to 10 seconds until the report prints.
  • HP DeskJet 6000, 6400, ENVY 6000, 6400, and Tango printers: Touch and hold the Information button until all buttons light up, and then touch the Information and Cancel buttons at the same time.
  • Make sure paper is loaded into the input tray, and then turn on the printer.
  • If you want to print web content, such as an email or cloud-based document, open the item before proceeding.
  • On your mobile device, open the Wi-Fi network menu, and then select your printer starting with DIRECT in the name and followed by the model name.
  • NOTE:
  • There might be multiple Wi-Fi Direct printers within range of your mobile device. Make sure to select the name of your printer in the list to prevent connection and print job issues.
  • Selecting your Wi-Fi Direct printer name from the list
  • If prompted, enter the Wi-Fi Direct password, and then tap Join.
  • Tapping Join
  • Open the item you want to print, and then select the option to Print.
  • Select AirPrint, if prompted.
  • Select your printer, and then tap Print.
  • If you were previously connected to a Wi-Fi network, return to the Wi-Fi network menu to reconnect to the network.
