I am trying to download the firmware after installing a hard drive on the printer. The TCP downloading screen comes up and it shows the IP address, however it has been stuck on 0% for over an hour.

@DuaneM7812, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Firmware Download Issues!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your printer is stuck at 0% while downloading firmware after replacing the hard drive, there are several steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Check Network Connectivity:

  • Verify that your network connection is stable and that the printer is properly connected to the network.
  • Ensure that other network devices are functioning correctly to rule out network issues.

Firmware File Format and Location:

  • Make sure you are using the correct firmware file format (.rfu or .bdl for HP printers).
  • Ensure the firmware file is properly uploaded and available from the correct URL or repository.

Increase Timeout Settings:

  • Slow network connections might cause the download process to exceed default timeout settings. Increase timeouts for firmware operations.
  • For non-HP FutureSmart devices, edit the FirmwareUpgrade.config.xml file located at:
    C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Local\HP Inc\HPWebJetadmin\WjaService\config\FirmwareUpgrade.config.xml

Increase the timeout values as shown below:<HP.Imaging.Wjp.Sdk.Core.Framework.ConfigurationItemString>90</HP.Imaging.Wjp.Sdk.Core.Framework.ConfigurationItemString> (Download timeout)

Check Security Settings:

  • Ensure that the printer’s security settings do not block firmware updates.
  • Verify port 9100 is open and allowed through any firewalls or security settings on the network.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
