Hi @ganormt

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're having trouble reinstalling the drivers for your LaserJet Pro 400. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Download the Latest Drivers

  • Visit the official HP website and navigate to the Support section for your specific LaserJet Pro 400 model. Download the latest drivers compatible with your operating system.

2. Use HP Smart App

  • If you haven’t already, consider using the HP Smart app for installation. This app can often simplify the setup process and help manage printer connections.

3. Uninstall Previous Drivers

  • Before reinstalling, make sure to completely uninstall any previous drivers:
    • Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features.
    • Find your LaserJet printer software, right-click, and select Uninstall.
    • After uninstalling, restart your computer.

4. Disable Firewall/Antivirus Temporarily

  • Sometimes security software can interfere with driver installations. Temporarily disable your firewall or antivirus and try reinstalling the drivers again.

5. Check USB Connections

  • If you’re connecting via USB, ensure the cable is firmly connected and try using a different USB port. If possible, test with a different cable.

6. Use Windows Troubleshooter

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
  • Run the Printer troubleshooter to see if it identifies any issues.

7. Perform a Clean Boot

  • A clean boot can help eliminate software conflicts:
    • Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
    • In the System Configuration window, go to the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, and then click Disable all.
    • Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager. Disable all startup items.
    • Restart your computer and try reinstalling the drivers.

8. Check for Windows Updates

  • Ensure your Windows operating system is fully updated. Sometimes pending updates can cause issues with driver installations.

9. Install in Safe Mode

  • Try installing the drivers in Safe Mode:
    • Restart your computer and repeatedly press F8 (or Shift + F8) before Windows starts to access the boot options.
    • Select Safe Mode with Networking, then try installing the drivers again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
