HP OfficeJet Pro 9730e Wide Format All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I followed the setup steps, and last step is to finish via HP Smart and it never completes and the printer display says I need to complete setup.  There is no step I can find around this.

Hi @dposmondsr,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We understand you're encountering an issue where your HP OfficeJet Pro 9730e Wide Format All-in-One Printer is displaying a "Complete setup in HP Smart" message, but the HP Smart app doesn't finish the process. Let's work through this together to resolve the problem.

1. Ensure a Stable Internet Connection

  • Printer: Confirm that your printer is connected to a stable Wi-Fi network. On the printer's control panel, navigate to Settings > Network Setup > Wi-Fi Settings to verify the connection.
  • Device: Ensure the device running the HP Smart app (computer or mobile device) is also connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

2. Restart Devices

  • Printer: Turn off the printer, wait for 10 seconds, and then turn it back on.
  • Device: Restart your computer or mobile device.
  • Router: If possible, restart your Wi-Fi router to refresh the network connection.

3. Use the HP Smart App on a Mobile Device

Sometimes, completing the setup via the HP Smart app on a mobile device can be more effective.

  • Download HP Smart: Install the HP Smart app from: HP printer setup (HP Smart app) | HP® Support
  • Sign In: Open the app and sign in with your HP account. If you don't have one, create a new account.
  • Add Printer: Follow the on-screen instructions to add your printer and complete the setup.

4. Remove and Re-add the Printer in HP Smart

  • Open HP Smart: Launch the HP Smart app on your device.
  • Remove Printer: Click on the printer icon, then select Remove Printer.
  • Add Printer: Click Add Printer and follow the prompts to re-add your printer.

5. Perform a Factory Reset on the Printer

If the issue persists, a factory reset may help.

  1. On the printer's control panel, swipe down to open the Dashboard.
  2. Tap the Settings (⚙️) icon.
  3. Select Printer Maintenance.
  4. Choose Restore.
  5. Tap Restore Factory Defaults.
  6. Confirm by tapping Continue.

Note: This will reset the printer to its original settings. You will need to set it up again using the HP Smart app.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
