When I try to complete the configuration of my printer LaserJet M140WE from the HP Smart I receive the following error OW_4XX_OWSWS00001
Further, I can't print as the orange exclamation mark is constantly blinking. The printer is connected correctly to the same network as my laptop, and has no issues such as papa jam. Of course, there is enough of toner color.
What can be the issue and how to resolve it? The printer used to work but then if suddenly stopped.

Hi @FrancoDeMaria,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The issue you're encountering with your HP LaserJet M140we printer, signaled by an orange exclamation mark and the error code "OW_4XX_OWSWS00001" during configuration with HP Smart, suggests a communication or service error, possibly related to HP's web services. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:
1. Understanding the Error and Indicator
- Orange Exclamation Mark: This often indicates a printer error such as a connectivity issue, low toner (though you've confirmed this is not the case), or internal errors.
- Error Code "OW_4XX_OWSWS00001": This specific error code is not widely documented, but the "OW" prefix and format suggest it's related to HP's web services (OWS), possibly a communication or authentication issue with HP's online services.
2. Basic Troubleshooting Steps
- Restart Your Printer: Turn off the printer, wait for about a minute, and then turn it back on. This can reset the printer's state and clear temporary errors.
- Check Printer Connectivity: Even though it's on the same network as your laptop, re-confirm the printer's network connection. Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer's control panel and check the IP address to ensure it's correctly connected.
- Ensure Printer Software is Up to Date: Outdated firmware can cause compatibility issues with HP Smart and other services. Use the printer's control panel or HP Smart to check for and install any available updates.
3. Resolve Web Services Error
- Disable and Re-enable HP Web Services: Navigate to the printer's web interface by entering its IP address in a web browser. Find the section for HP Web Services, disable it, and then re-enable it. This can often resolve communication issues with HP's services.
- Check HP's Server Status: Rarely, the issue might be on HP's end with their web services experiencing downtime. Check HP's support forums or contact support to see if there are any known issues.
4. Further Steps
- HP Smart Diagnostic Tools: Use any diagnostic or troubleshooting tools available within the HP Smart app to check for and resolve printer issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
