Welcome to the HP Support Community.

HP Smart App only works with a wireless connection.

I didn’t know. My printer is not wireless so how am I supposed to connect it to my laptop?

When you connect the printer USB cable, macOS automatically installs and adds your printer to provide basic printing functionality.

  1. Click the Apple icon , click System Preferences, and then click Software Update. Install any available updates, and then restart your Mac.

  2. Make sure there is an open USB port available directly on your computer. If you use a USB hub or docking station, the printer might not receive enough power to operate properly.

  3. Click the Apple icon , click System Preferences, and then click Printers & Scanners, Print and Scan, or Print and Fax.

  4. If your printer displays in the list, select it, and then click the Minus sign to remove the printer.

  5. Connect the printer USB cable to the computer.

  6. If prompted to download new software, follow the instructions to install it.

  7. Confirm your printer is listed under Printers.

    • If your printer is in the list, the setup is complete.

    • If your printer is not in the list, continue with these steps.

  8. Click the Plus sign, click Add Printer or Scanner, and then select the name of your printer.

  9. From the Use or Print Using drop-down menu, select AirPrint or Secure AirPrint, and then click Add.

If AirPrint is not an available option, select the printer name, or click Select Software to choose a driver.

  11. Confirming AirPrint is select in the Use menu

I doubt if your Laptop has no USB port, you'll be able to connect your Printer and Laptop.

Hi, none of the solutions recommended works. Can I get a proper and functional solution to this?!

HP Recommended

If your Printer is not wireless nor does the Laptop have a USB port, it won't be possible to connect the Printer to this Laptop.
