HP OfficeJet Pro 8035 All-in-One Printer

I have NEVER gotten this printer installed on my son's HP 14-ed laptop.  It installs on my work Surface Book 3.  It installs on my wife's old Lenovo laptop.  IT NEVER INSTALLS ON MY SON'S HP.  I've even completely reimaged his laptop and I still have the same issues.

If I try to install from Settings > Printers directly, I get Connecting...Connecting...  and then it just goes away.

If I try from the latest downloaded HP drivers, I get, "Installation error"  "Service 'PlugPlay' (PlugPlay) failed to start."

If I try from the HP Smart app, I get, "There was a problem during installation".

I posted this months ago and not a single person responded.  If I don't get this resolved, I'm going to throw this POS printer out of my window.  Please help.

Hi @DeloskyGA ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your frustration with getting the HP OfficeJet Pro 8035 driver installed on your son's Windows 11 computer. It's especially concerning that it works on other devices but not this specific laptop. Let's try some troubleshooting steps to get it working:

1. Check Windows 11 Updates:

  • Make sure your son's Windows 11 is fully updated. Sometimes, Microsoft includes driver updates within their regular updates. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.

2. Manually Download Driver from HP:

  • Head to HP's official support page for your printer: [HP OfficeJet Pro 8035 Software and Driver Downloads].
  • Select your operating system (Windows 11) and choose the "Full Driver and Software Package."
  • Download and run the installer.

3. Run the Windows Troubleshooter:

  • Windows has a built-in troubleshooter that can fix printer issues. Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
  • Run the "Printers" troubleshooter and follow the on-screen instructions.

4. Check Windows Services:

  • The error message "Service 'PlugPlay' (PlugPlay) failed to start" indicates an issue with a specific Windows service.
  • Press the Windows key + R, type "services.msc", and press Enter.
  • Locate the "Plug and Play" service. Make sure it's set to "Automatic" and is started. If it's not running, right-click and select "Start."

5. Temporarily Disable Antivirus/Firewall:

  • In rare cases, antivirus or firewall software can interfere with driver installations. Try temporarily disabling them (make sure to re-enable them afterward) and see if the driver installation goes through.

Additional Tips:

  • Make sure your son's computer meets the minimum system requirements for the HP OfficeJet Pro 8035 drivers. You can find these on the HP website.
  • Try connecting the printer to the computer with a different USB cable.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for the steps to try.  I started running through the troubleshooting steps.

Computer is 100% up to date -Windows and Microsoft Store apps.

Manually Download Driver from HP:

  • I went to the website to download the driver like you said.  The only options available are:
    • Install HP Smart app to complete setup and support (Recommended)
      • This downloads the "HP Smart Installer"
      • I already had HP Smart installed and the installer said I already had the latest version.
      • When I open the app, my HP OfficeJet Pro 8030 series printer shows Online.  Whenever I print, nothing is ever sent to the print queue and nothing ever gets printed.
      • NOTE: I completely reimaged this laptop to factory settings, mostly to try to get this to work.  This was already a clean install of HP Smart.
    • HP Easy Start Printer Setup Software (Internet required)
      • I download HPEasyStart_16_5_6.exe and run it.
      • From the HP Easy Start installation program, it finds my existing printer on Wi-Fi.
      • I continue, Accept All at the Connected printing services and get to Searching for available software.
      • From here, instead of selecting HP Smart (Recommended), I choose Full Software and Drivers.
      • It extracts the drivers and the HP OfficeJet Pro 8030 installer opens.  After accepting the EULA, the 1 of 8 Basic  Device Software installs completes at 100%, the installer says, "Install Failed    The software required for your device could not be installed."
        • When I click on Details, this is where I get, "Installation error   Service 'PlugPlay' (PlugPlay) failed to start.  Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."
        • When I go to check the services (as described below), the Plug and Play service is not installed on the computer.
    • HP OfficeJet Pro 8030 All-in-One Print EasyStart Printer Setup Software (Offline Use Only)
      • The same process happens as the other downloaded driver installation.

Here's where it gets weird.  I went to Services.msc and the Plug and Play service is no where to be found.  I'm 99% certain I got the Plug and Play error before I did the factory image reinstall recently, but regardless, I know I can't get past this issue until I can get that service running again.

I'm still working on this and once I troubleshoot getting the PlugPlay service reinstalled, I will try again.
