Hi @CharlieGeorgia,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're unable to access the HP Smart App on your computer due to not having the administrator name and password, particularly because the laptop was previously used by someone else, there are a few steps you can take to address this issue. Each solution depends on your level of access to the computer and your ability to make changes to the system. Here are several options you might consider:

1. Contact the Previous Owner

If possible, the simplest solution might be to contact the previous owner (the salesman) and ask for the admin credentials. This could immediately solve your issue without needing to make any changes to the computer itself.

2. Reset the Administrator Password

If you cannot contact the previous owner or they do not remember the password, you might need to reset the administrator password. The process for this can vary depending on the operating system (e.g., Windows 10, Windows 11, macOS). For Windows, you might use a password reset disk or utility tool. For macOS, you can use Recovery Mode to reset the password.

3. Use Another Account with Admin Rights

Check if there are other user accounts on the laptop with administrator rights. You can log into another admin account and either reset the password for the primary admin account or make necessary changes using this account.

4. Create a New Administrator Account

If you can access the computer but not with admin rights, there are methods to create a new administrator account using certain bootable tools or command-line tricks. However, this approach requires some technical knowledge and can vary significantly based on your operating system.

5. Factory Reset the Computer

As a last resort, you could perform a factory reset on the laptop. This will erase all data and return the computer to its original state, as it was when first purchased. Before considering this option, ensure all important data is backed up. Note that a factory reset might require you to have access to recovery partitions or media provided by HP.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
