I have a new Envy 6120 printer which when I installed worked fine, I could print wirelessly from my laptop and my phone. Now I can only print wirelessly from my phone, not my printer. My laptop and printer are on the same network, I have to input the password for wireless every time (it does not remember it), then is says it is connected by the wifi is unavailable. Everytime I try and print, I spent 2 hours trying to work out what is wrong, sometimes it starts printing but I have no idea what I have done. Surely if my printer is connected to my wifi and my laptop is too, it should just print. The HP App says that it is connected and fine - I am starting to get very frustrated and think my only option is to have a usb cable from my printer to my laptop everytime I want to print. I have tried clearing the print spooler and looked at lots of help videos but nothing seems to work.

@RuthyT, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand how frustrating it can be when your printer works perfectly from your phone but not from your PC. Let’s work through this together and get your HP Envy 6120 printing reliably from your laptop again.
Here are a few steps to help resolve the issue:
Ensure Printer and PC Are on the Same Network
Even though you mentioned they are, double-check that both your printer and PC are connected to the same Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and band (2.4GHz or 5GHz). Some routers split these into separate networks.
Set a Static IP for the Printer
If your printer forgets the Wi-Fi password or shows “Wi-Fi unavailable,” it may be losing its IP address. Here’s how to fix that:
- On the printer’s control panel, print a Network Configuration Page.
- Note the current IP address.
- Open a browser on your PC and enter that IP to access the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
- Go to Network > Wireless (802.11) > IPv4 Configuration.
- Set a Manual IP (use the current one) and Manual DNS (e.g., 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4).
- Save the settings.
Reinstall the Printer on Your PC
Sometimes the driver or port configuration gets corrupted:
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click your printer and select Remove device.
- Download and install the HP Smart App or the Full Feature Software from HP’s official site.
- Re-add the printer using the app or Add a Printer in Windows settings.
Check Windows Print Spooler and Services
You mentioned clearing the spooler, which is great. Also:
- Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- Ensure Print Spooler is set to Automatic and is Running.
- Also check Function Discovery Provider Host and Function Discovery Resource Publication – both should be Running and Automatic.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
