I bought this printer (HP LaserJet Pro MFP M148fdw) used at a store and do not have the Embedded Web Server (EWS) password, and so I am not able to access certain EWS features. Can the password be reset or eliminated?

Hi @Dan0608,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP LaserJet MFP M281fdw, particularly with the black color, there are several troubleshooting steps you can take:

Check Cartridge Installation:

  • Ensure the black toner cartridge is installed correctly.
  • Remove the cartridge and gently shake it to redistribute the toner, then reinsert it.

Print Quality Diagnostic Page:

  • Print a diagnostics page to determine if the issue is with the cartridge or the printer. You can usually do this through the printer's control panel:
    • Go to "Reports" > "Print Quality Report".
    • Review the printouts for any abnormalities in the black color sections.

Clean the Printer:

  • Run the printer's built-in cleaning cycle. This can help clear any clogs or debris affecting print quality.
    • From the control panel, go to "Setup" > "Service" > "Cleaning Page".
  • Physically inspect the printer’s internals for any obvious obstructions or toner spills.

Check for Firmware Updates: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. HP frequently releases updates to improve performance and fix bugs.
    • Download and install any available updates from the HP Support website.

Check Printer Settings:

  • Ensure that the printer settings on your Mac are correctly configured for the document type and print quality.
  • Check for any grayscale or black-and-white settings that might be affecting color prints.

Test Different Documents:

  • Try printing different types of documents (text, graphics, photos) to see if the problem persists across all formats or is specific to certain types.

Use Genuine HP Cartridges:

  • Ensure you are using genuine HP toner cartridges, as third-party cartridges can sometimes cause print quality issues.

Reset the Printer:

  • Sometimes, resetting the printer to its factory settings can resolve issues.
    • Go to "Setup" > "Service" > "Restore Defaults".

MacOS Printer Drivers: HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw Software and Driver
