Your HP ENVY 5014 printer is locked in setup mode, which means it requires the original setup cartridges that came with the printer to complete the first-time initialization.
Without using these, the printer won’t proceed past the setup screen, and won’t allow normal cartridges (even genuine HP ones) to work until setup is completed.
Options You Can Try
Check If Setup Was Already Completed
Sometimes setup has already been done before (like with refurbished or returned units). To check:
- Open the HP Smart App on a phone or PC.
- See if it shows your printer as “Ready” or still “In Setup.”
- If it’s ready, try a factory reset (below) and then try installing normal cartridges.
Do a Factory Reset
This can help clear the setup lock in some cases.
⚠️ WARNING: This wipes network settings and restores defaults.
Steps:
- Turn off the printer.
- Turn it back on and immediately press Cancel (X) and Wireless (📶) buttons together for 5–10 seconds.
- It should enter a reset mode or restart.
- Reconnect to Wi-Fi and try using normal cartridges.
If these steps don't work, you will have get the SETUP cartridges.
