Hi @noah72
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Intel Turbo Boost Technology is usually enabled by default on most systems, but if your HP Victus 15 isn't reaching the full 4.4 GHz as expected, you can follow these steps to ensure it's properly enabled and working:
Steps to Enable and Verify Intel Turbo Boost Technology
1. Check BIOS Settings
Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings by pressing the appropriate key during startup (usually Esc, F2, F10, or Del, depending on the system).
Once in the BIOS, look for a section related to Advanced CPU Settings or Performance.
- There should be an option to Enable Intel Turbo Boost Technology. Make sure it’s enabled.
- If you're unable to find it, your system may already have Turbo Boost enabled by default without the option to toggle it.
Save the changes and exit the BIOS.
2. Verify Power Settings in Windows
- Make sure your power settings allow the processor to utilize its full performance.
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose or customize a power plan.
- Select High Performance or create a custom plan that prioritizes performance.
- In Advanced Power Settings, ensure that Processor power management is set to allow the maximum processor state at 100%.
3. Monitor CPU Performance
- To verify that Intel Turbo Boost is working, monitor your CPU’s clock speed while under load.
- You can use tools like Task Manager or third-party programs like CPU-Z or HWMonitor to monitor CPU speed and ensure it is boosting beyond the base clock.
- Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc), go to the Performance tab, and under CPU, watch the Speed value while performing a task that demands more processing power (e.g., running a benchmark or a demanding application).
4. Disable Power Throttling (Optional)
- If your system is power-limited, you may experience throttling that prevents the CPU from reaching its maximum speed.
- Go to Control Panel > System > Advanced System Settings > Performance.
- Under Processor scheduling, set it to prioritize Programs.
5. Check for Thermal Throttling
- If the system is running too hot, it may throttle the CPU to prevent overheating, which could limit the clock speed.
- Make sure the laptop has proper ventilation and is not overheating. You can use tools like HWMonitor to check CPU temperatures while running intensive tasks.
6. Update BIOS and Drivers
- Ensure your BIOS and chipset drivers are up to date. Sometimes an outdated BIOS may affect how Turbo Boost works.
- Visit the HP support website and check for any BIOS updates or driver updates specific to your HP Victus 15 model.
7. Turbo Boost Lock (Windows Settings)
- Windows Settings:
- Open Windows Settings > System > About > Advanced system settings > Settings under Performance.
- Under Processor Power Management, ensure that Maximum Processor Frequency is not set to a limit lower than the Turbo Boost frequency.
8. Check Turbo Boost Using Intel XTU (Extreme Tuning Utility)
- Download Intel Extreme Tuning Utility (XTU) to monitor and control the Turbo Boost functionality.
- XTU allows you to see if Turbo Boost is active, how much headroom your CPU has, and tweak CPU performance settings.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
