Today I got the HP DeskJet printer because I was in need for a printer for my study. During the installation process, I accidentally clicked I wanted to activate HP+ and when backed and try to start the process again, it did not let me choose the option to not activate it anymore. So, I actived it anyway, because I needed to print something today. Now I was wondering if there is any way to deactivate the system, because I did not want it in the first place.

Hi @Tessa20
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Yes, it is possible to deactivate HP+ if you don't want to use it, even after having accidentally activated it during setup. Here's how you can deactivate HP+ and return to regular printing:
Steps to Deactivate HP+:
Open the HP Smart App:
- Since HP+ is tied to the HP Smart app, you’ll need to open it. If you don’t have the app installed, download it from the HP Smart App download page and install it on your computer or mobile device.
Access Printer Settings:
- Once in the HP Smart app, make sure you’re logged in with your HP account (the one you used when setting up HP+).
- Select your HP DeskJet printer from the main screen of the app.
Deactivate HP+:
- Go to Printer Settings in the HP Smart app.
- Look for a section that mentions HP+ settings. This may be under a tab like "Printer Services" or "Manage your printer."
- You should see an option to deactivate HP+ or unregister HP+. The wording can vary slightly, but look for options that allow you to remove or disable HP+ from your account.
Confirm the Action:
- After selecting the option to deactivate HP+, you may be asked to confirm that you want to deactivate HP+. The app will explain that this will cancel your free ink and cloud services associated with HP+ (if any).
- Once confirmed, the HP+ services will be turned off, and you will be using the printer without the additional features tied to HP+.
What Happens After Deactivation:
- HP+ Benefits (like Free Ink): If you were enrolled in any HP+ subscription benefits (like free ink for the first few months), these will be canceled.
- Regular Printer Functionality: Your printer will still work as a regular printer, and you can continue using it for your study without the extra features of HP+.
- HP Account: You’ll still have an HP account, but you will not be tied to HP+ or its associated services.
If You Can't Find the Option to Deactivate HP+:
In case the option to deactivate HP+ doesn't appear in the app or the printer settings, try these alternative options:
Reset the Printer: If deactivating via the app doesn’t work, you can try resetting the printer to factory settings. This might prompt the printer to ask for a fresh setup, and during this process, you should be able to choose not to activate HP+.
- To reset your HP DeskJet printer:
- On the printer's control panel, go to Settings (this might be under the gear icon or similar).
- Select Printer Maintenance.
- Choose Restore or Restore Factory Defaults.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to reset the printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
