Hi @WVHS-Rich ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you want to do a factory reset can indeed clear the forgotten password on your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw.
Here's how you can perform a factory reset without needing the password:
Turn off the printer:
- Make sure the printer is completely powered off.
Disconnect the power cord:
- Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and from the wall outlet.
Wait for 30 seconds:
- Allow the printer to fully power down and reset.
Reconnect the power cord:
- Plug the power cord back into the printer and the wall outlet.
Turn on the printer:
- Power on the printer by pressing the power button.
Enter the Service Menu:
- As the printer powers on, press and hold the Cancel button (marked with a red X) and the Right Arrow button simultaneously.
- Hold these buttons until the display shows the Service Menu.
Navigate to the Factory Reset option:
- Use the arrow buttons to navigate to the Service Menu.
- Select Service Menu.
- Navigate to Restore Defaults or Reset Factory Settings.
Confirm the reset:
- Follow the on-screen instructions to confirm and proceed with the reset.
Complete the reset:
- The printer will restart and restore to factory settings, clearing the forgotten password.
After completing these steps, the printer should be reset to its factory default settings, including the password.
