After years of successful printing, today there was an error message on my printer.  "The computer update could not be downloaded.Touch "Retry" to start the download again,"  But that doesn't work.   I downloaded HP Smart and it can't find my computer.  I am enrolled in HP Instant Ink.  Frustrating.  I can't find anywhere what to do because the HP Smart can't even find my printer.  Help is appreciated.

It seems like you're encountering some issues with your HP OfficeJet Pro 9015 printer and HP Smart software. Let's try to troubleshoot the problem step by step.

 

Check Internet Connection: Ensure that your printer is connected to the internet. You may need to verify your Wi-Fi network settings on the printer to make sure it's connected correctly. A stable internet connection is necessary for downloading updates.

Restart Your Printer: Sometimes, simply turning off your printer and then turning it back on can resolve minor issues. Try this and see if it helps.

Update Printer Firmware Manually: If the automatic update is failing, you can try to update the printer firmware manually:

 

  • a. Go to the HP Support website (support.hp.com). 
  • b. Enter your printer model (OfficeJet Pro 9015) in the search bar. 
  • c. Locate the firmware update for your printer and download it to your computer. 
  • d. Follow the instructions provided on the HP website to manually update your printer's firmware.

 

Reset HP Smart App: a. Close the HP Smart app on your computer. b. Restart your computer. c. Open the HP Smart app again and check if it can detect your printer.

Check Firewall Settings: Sometimes, firewall or security software can block the communication between your computer and the printer. Make sure that your firewall settings are not blocking the HP Smart app. You may need to add exceptions or rules to allow communication with the printer.

Reinstall HP Smart App: a. Uninstall the HP Smart app from your computer. b. Download the latest version of the HP Smart app from the official HP website. c. Install the app and follow the setup instructions.

Factory Reset the Printer (as a last resort): If none of the above steps work, you can perform a factory reset on your printer. Keep in mind that this will reset all settings on the printer.

 

Remember to backup any important settings or data on your printer before performing a factory reset, as it will erase all custom configurations. Additionally, ensure that your computer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your printer for proper communication.
