Microsoft Windows 11

Hello, I have an HP OfficeJet Pro 8740 printer that is asking for a pin which an ex employee set up and never wrote down.  I have performed a semi full reset per a guide but the system is still asking for a pin.  When clicking sign in then username and password page does not come up. How can I reset the pin?

Hi @tommmygun,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're facing a common issue where access to the Embedded Web Server (EWS) of your HP OfficeJet Pro 8740 is locked behind a PIN set by someone no longer available. Performing a semi-full reset usually resolves many issues but might not always clear security settings such as a PIN for EWS. Here's what you can do to try and resolve this issue:

Option 1: Full Factory Reset

A full factory reset might be more effective than a semi-full reset in clearing all settings, including the EWS PIN. The process can vary slightly between models, but generally, you'll need to:

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. While the printer is off, press and hold the resume button (this might vary, sometimes it's the Wi-Fi button or another button, depending on the model).
  3. While holding the button, turn the printer back on and continue to hold the button for around 10-15 seconds.
  4. The printer might restart a couple of times during the process. Once it's back on, try accessing the EWS again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
