Hi @Gerhardt16,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error message "The printhead appears to be missing, not detected, or incorrectly installed" on your HP Officejet 6700 Premium can be frustrating. Here are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

1. Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 1-2 minutes.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

2. Check the Printhead Installation:

  • Open the printer cover and locate the printhead.
  • Ensure the printhead is properly seated and locked into place. If it's not correctly installed, it can cause the error message.

3. Remove and Reinstall the Printhead:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Open the printer cover and carefully remove the ink cartridges from the printhead.
  • Lift the latch handle on the print carriage to release the printhead.
  • Remove the printhead and check for any visible damage or debris.
  • Reinsert the printhead and lock the latch handle securely.
  • Reinstall the ink cartridges.
  • Close the printer cover and turn on the printer.

4. Clean the Printhead and Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Remove the printhead and the ink cartridges.
  • Use a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water to gently clean the electrical contacts on the printhead and the printer.
  • Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinstalling the printhead and cartridges.

5. Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Make sure your printer firmware is up to date. Go to the HP website, search for your printer model, and download any available firmware updates.

6. Reset the Printer:

  • Resetting the printer to its factory settings can sometimes resolve issues. Refer to the printer manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.

7. Replace the Printhead:

  • If the printhead is damaged or worn out, it might need to be replaced. Contact HP support or visit their website to purchase a new printhead.

8. Printer Diagnostics:

  • Some HP printers have built-in diagnostic tools. Refer to your printer manual to see if there is a diagnostic tool that can help identify and fix the issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
