@joanie39, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Check Printer Settings in System Preferences

Go to Apple Menu > System Settings (or System Preferences).

Click on Printers & Scanners.

Select your HP Envy 7900 printer from the list.

Click Options & Supplies.

Here, make sure that the proper driver is selected and not a generic one. If the driver is outdated or generic, it could be causing some of the missing settings.

Check the Print Dialog in Preview or Safari (or any app you’re printing from)

Open the document or image you want to print.

Choose File > Print.

In the print dialog, click on the Show Details button if it’s visible. This should expand the options.

Look for settings like Quality, Paper Type, Draft Mode, or Print Quality under Media & Quality or Layout tabs.

If you don’t see the options, click on the dropdowns or arrows to expand additional settings.

Reset the Printing System

If things still aren't working, you might want to reset the printing system:

Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.

Right-click (or Control-click) anywhere in the printer list and select Reset Printing System.

Re-add your printer afterward by clicking the + button.

Run HP Smart:

Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
