Hi @nitters,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are getting the unsolicited messages you are receiving seem to be HTTP requests related to the printer's status and system information. These messages might be generated by software installed on your computer or by the printer's embedded web server trying to communicate with your computer.

Here are steps you can take to stop these messages:

1. Check for Printer Software Updates

Ensure that you have the latest drivers and software for your HP OfficeJet 4500 printer. Sometimes, outdated software can cause such issues.

  • Visit the HP Support website and search for your printer model.
  • Download and install any available updates for the printer's drivers and software.

2. Disable Printer Notifications

HP software often has settings to control notifications. You can disable or limit notifications through the HP printer software installed on your computer.

  • Open the HP Printer Assistant or HP Solution Center.
  • Navigate to the settings or preferences section.
  • Look for options related to notifications or alerts and disable them.

3. Modify Firewall and Security Software

Your firewall or security software might be generating these messages by blocking or logging the printer's attempts to communicate.

  • Check the settings of your firewall or antivirus software.
  • Allow the printer's communication or create an exception for the printer's IP address.

4. Disable Embedded Web Server (EWS)

If the printer's Embedded Web Server is causing the issue, you can disable it through the printer's control panel.

  • Access the printer's control panel.
  • Navigate to the network settings or web services settings.
  • Disable the Embedded Web Server (EWS) if there is an option to do so.

5. Check for Running Background Services

Sometimes, background services related to the printer might be causing these messages.

  • Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) on your computer.
  • Look for any HP-related services or processes.
  • If you identify any service that might be causing the issue, try stopping it and see if the messages stop.

6. Check Startup Programs

Disable any unnecessary startup programs related to HP or the printer.

  • Open the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc).
  • Go to the "Startup" tab.
  • Disable any HP-related programs from starting automatically.

7. Uninstall and Reinstall Printer Software

As a last resort, you can try uninstalling and reinstalling the printer software.

  • Go to "Control Panel" > "Programs and Features" and uninstall all HP printer-related software.
  • Reboot your computer.
  • Reinstall the printer software from the HP website.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I used your suggestion of checking the startup programs. I disabled the HP digital monitor and that seems to have taken care of the problem. Thank you so much for your help with this matter.
